U.N. global warming conference opens

KYOTO, Japan - The third conference of the parties (COP3) of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate change opens in Kyoto, an ancient capital of Japan, with delegates from some 160 countries participating for a 10-day meeting. Japanese Environment Minister Hiroshi Oki, who serves as chairman of the meeting, called for cooperation from both developed and developing countries to forge a worldwide strategy to tackle global warming.
