YOKOSUKA, Japan - Japanese adventurer Minoru Saito throws up his arms aboard the ''Shuten-dohji II'' as his yacht sails off Izu-Oshima Island toward the end of a solo nonstop voyage around the world on June 6. Saito, at 71, is the world's oldest person to accomplish the fete. He sailed eastwards via Cape Horn in Chile, Cape of Good Hope in South Africa and the Tasmania Island in Australia, and then sailed north to come back to Japan to end his 50,000 kilometers voyage.

OSAKA, Japan - A 69-year-old Japanese yachtsman embarks on July 20 on his second attempt to sail solo around the world. ''I really want to succeed this time,'' said Ikuo Kashima, before setting sail from Tannowa Yacht Harbor in the town of Misaki, Osaka Prefecture, in his 13.92-ton yacht Koraasa-70. Kashima plans to sail across the Pacific around Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America, past the southern coasts of Africa and south of Australia's Tasmania island before heading back to Japan.
