US Virgin Islands: Hurricane Erin Brings Heavy Rain, High Winds, and Power Outages

Hurricane Erin intensified into a Category 4 storm on Monday, August 18. The storm is forecast to bring life-threatening rip currents and surf conditions across the U.S. East Coast this week. Erin left nearly the entire island of St. Thomas without power over the weekend. In response, the U.S. Coast Guard is imposing restrictions on vessels at ports on the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Dominican Republic: Hurricane Erin Brings Heavy Rains, Gusty Winds

Hurricane Erin, the first Atlantic hurricane of 2025, further weakened from Category 5 to a Category 3 storm on Sunday, August 17, as it churned over the Atlantic Ocean north of the Caribbean. Erin produced gusty winds and heavy rains across the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
