The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued tsunami alerts for Hawaii, California and Alaska following a magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, July 30. Tsunami sirens were heard both on the ground and from the air in Poʻipū on the island of Kauaʻi.
