STORYLINE: Waste generated in fast food restaurants such as plastic straws, paper placemats and paper cups, is now being recycled in Shanghai rather than burned as they were before. In the city's new pilot project, low-value recyclables are re-utilized based on their categories after being collected and transported specifically from fast food restaurants. For instance, plastic lids are processed into plastic pellets, and paper cups and placemats into recycled paper pulp.
