STORY: Kenyan, Ethiopian runners win 47th Amsterdam Marathon DATELINE: Oct. 16, 2023 LENGTH: 00:01:12 LOCATION: Amsterdam CATEGORY: SPORTS SHOTLIST: 1. various of the 47th Amsterdam Marathon STORYLINE: Joshua Belet of Kenya won the men's race of the 47th Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday, while Ethiopian Meseret Belete was the fastest in the women's event. A heavy rain shower came down shortly before the race, but cleared up after the start. On the difficult stretch along the river Amstel, there was almost no wind, which was favorable for the athletes. Kenyan runners swept the podium in the men's race. The 25-year-old Belet triumphed in a time of 2:04:18. The second place went to Cybrian Kotut in 2:04:34, while Bethwel Chumba finished third in 2:04:37. Belet broke open the race after 30 kilometers after stepping on the acceleration and finished on his own in the Olympic Stadium. Belete emerged as the winner in the women's category in 2:18:21. Meseret Abebayehu, also from Ethiopia, finished second
