Sugiyama duo advances

NEW YORK, United States - Japan's top-ranked Ai Sugiyama and South African partner Ellis Ferreira shut down unseeded American Meghann Shaughnessy and Czech teammate Cyril Suk in the first round of the mixed doubles competition at the U.S. Open at the National Tennis Center in New York on Aug. 31.
