Senegal's presidential election

DAKAR, Senegal - A poster of Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade is defaced with black ink in the country's capital of Dakar on March 25, 2012, the day of a presidential runoff election. The 85-year-old president sought a third term in office despite a constitutional ban on doing so. He lost the runoff to former Prime Minister Macky Sall, 50.

DAKAR, Senegal - Photo taken in May 2011 shows the 52-meter tall statue called the African renaissance monument in Dakar, western Africa. The monument, controversial because of its massive building cost, was unveiled in the Senegalese capital in 2010 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of independence from French rule.
