Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Imamoglu expressed gratitude to the European Olympic Committee (EOC) for promptly reaching its decision. The mayor mentioned that despite Istanbul's five-time candidacy for the Olympic Games, the city has yet to host a multi-sport event. "We've dedicated considerable effort to achieving this important milestone," he added.
