Halik was awarded for his activities in support of a just society, his contribution to Czech-German conciliation and the dialogue between nations and religions. He will receive the decoration on October 21, exactly 41 years after being ordained a priest in Erfurt, central Germany, in order to serve in the underground church in communist Czechoslovakia.
