Japan: Expressway Closed Due To Snow And Multi-Car Accident In Niigata

Parts of the southbound lane of the Kan-Etsu Expressway were shut down due to an accident involving multiple cars on Monday, February 17, snarling traffic. The northbound lane was also closed due to heavy snowfall that required concentrated snow removal.

TOKYO, Japan - Soil from a collapsed roadside wall covers a 10-meter section of the Shin-Etsu Expressway in Komoro, Nagano Prefecture, on Jan. 19, shutting down the expressway between the Komoro and Saku interchanges for four hours. The landslide, which occurred at around 6:15 a.m., did not hit any vehicles, officials said.
