The team from the Catalan Institute of Paleoecology and Social Evolution (Iphes-Cerca) digging on the Abric Romani site in Capellades described the findings as "exceptional". It is the first time that Neanderthal remains have been found at the site, which has been under excavation for 40 years under the supervision of the celebrated archaeologist, Eudald Carbonell.
