Japanese electric car completes round-the-world trip

Fujinaka's team left Japan on July 3 to begin the 18,000 kilometer journey through Russia, Europe and the United States. During the 100-day journey, Masahiro Furukawa, the 22-year-old driver, traveled about 70 kilometers per hour, averaging about 300 km per day.

TOKYO, Japan - A four-member group from Tokyo Denki University sets off July 3 on a second attempt to travel around the world in a car converted to run on electric power. Masaharu Fujinaka, professor of electrical engineering at the university, and three of his students left the Kanda campus in Tokyo in the morning for Toyama, central Japan, where they will board a ferry for the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok. The 18,000-kilometer journey, expected to take about 100 days, will take them through Russia, Europe and the United States.
