Carnival Fever In The Northern City Of Dunkirk - France

Revelers parade on February 4, 2024 in Dunkirk, France. In the northern French city of Dunkirk, thousands of people look forward to carnival season every year. As Mardi Gras approaches, the carnival transforms the city: the Black Cat Ball, fancy dressing and herring throwing from the town hall balcony are all part of the two-month-long festivities. The tradition dates back to the 17th century, when shipowners would host a big party for fishermen before they sailed off to Iceland for six months to fish for cod. This photograph shows foie gras at the Rungis International Market, in Rungis southern suburb of Paris on December 6, 2023. The Rungis International Market (Marche International de Rungis) is the principal market of Paris, mainly for food and horticultural products, located in the commune of Rungis, in the southern suburbs. It is the second largest wholesale food market in the world after Central de Abasto, located in Mexico city. From its origins in the 10th century to the mid-20th century, the central market of Paris was located in the centre of the city, in a 10-hectare area named Les Halles. That became too small to accommodate all of the business demand, and, in 1969, the market was transferred to the suburbs. Rungis was selected because of its easy access by rail and highway and its proximity to Orly International Airport. Photo by Eliot Blondet/ABACAPRESS.COM

Grass sprouts from the surface covered by blankets made from coconut shells at the area of the abandoned mines in Ruoergai County of Aba Prefecture, where bedrocks were exposed before. Blankets made from coconut shells have compact structure and strong corrosion resistance. They can effectively inhibit soil erosion, and have excellent slope protection effect. In addition, they can be biodegradable, decomposing into organic fertilizer after "completing their mission". Due to stone mining in the past, bare bedrocks were left on the grassland, making it very difficult to restore vegetation and seriously affecting the ecological environment in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. The utilization of blankets made from coconut shells provides a new method for gras
