Copper fiber sheet commercialized by Good Eye

Good Eye (Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture) will release GUD Sheet, a copper fiber sheet with antibacterial and antiviral effects, in June. The company commercialized four types of masks, including one priced at 4,980 yen (excluding consumption tax). The GUD sheet is a polymer fiber covered with copper foil and coated with a visible light responsive photocatalyst. In an experiment on bacteriophage, a virus that infects bacteria, it was confirmed that rubbing a finger covered with the virus on the sheet for 30 seconds reduced the number of the virus to less than 1/1000.Professor Hideyuki Itabashi of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Gunma University, who also serves as the company's chairman, said, "We hope to start experiments in July. The photo shows copper fiber sheets commercialized as masks and chiefs. (Photo taken on May 19, 2020, location unknown, credit: Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun / Kyodo News Images)
