It resumed passenger clearance on Saturday. Two-way cargo transport at the port resumed on Dec. 28 last year. Since then, 9,800 tonnes of goods worth 413 million yuan (about 60 million U.S. dollars) have been exported from China via this port, while 600 tonnes of goods with a value of 17 million yuan have been imported into China through it. The resumption of personnel exchanges means Gyirong port has now fully resumed passenger and cargo services. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Lhasa, China. (XHTV)

The port of Gyirong, located in the city of Xigaze, Wednesday saw the entry of six lorries carrying 825,800 yuan (about 118,321 U.S. dollars) worth of goods from Nepal. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the port was closed at the end of 2019. In July 2020, it partially reopened to allow exports to Nepal. According to an official with the regional department of commerce, the resumption of two-way trade via the port will help boost trade and the economic development of the two countries.
