More than 170 migrants arrives at the Port of La Restinga - Spain

A new cayuco has arrived today to the island of El Hierro with more than 170 migrants on board, all sub-Saharan, pending the final count. The skiff has reached the islands after managing to cross the Atlantic route after setting sail several days ago from some point off the coast of sub-Saharan Africa. The cayuco was intercepted on the high seas south of the island of El Hierro by a Civil Guard patrol boat -without the intervention of Maritime Rescue- and escorted to the port, where its occupants have been assisted by the staff of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) and Red Cross volunteers, who have provided hygiene kits, clothing, footwear, blankets and food.
