Japan: Massive Train Disruption Impacts Hundreds of Thousands in Tokyo Area

3 people rescued from atop 7-story Tokyo condo building after fire

TOKYO, Japan - A 65-year-old man and two female family members were rescued Nov. 9 from the rooftop of a seven-story condominium building in Tokyo's Minato Ward about two hours after a fire broke out in the man's top floor residence, firefighters said. TOKYO, Japan - Workers sent from East Japan Railway Co. set up steps at Tokyo's JR Hamamatsucho Station March 3 to prevent platform accidents. Steps were placed in the wake of the Jan. 26 accident at JR Shin-Okubo Station, where two men were killed while trying to rescue a drunken man who fell onto the track. There were no evacuation spaces at the station.
