Responding to a protest by a Hokkaido town against his description of the town in a story serialized in a monthly magazine, Murakami said Feb. 7, 2014, he will use a different name when the story comes out in book form. In the story titled "Drive My Car" in the December issue of the Bungeishunju magazine, the main character said when he saw a female driver from Nakatonbetsu throw a burning cigarette from her car that everyone was doing the same thing on a routine basis.
