Prosecutors' homes, offices raided over data tampering case

KYOTO, Japan - Members of the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office walk into the Kyoto District Public Prosecutors Office to conduct a search on Oct. 2, 2010, after Hiromichi Otsubo and Motoaki Saga, the former chief and deputy chief of the special investigation department of the Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office, were arrested on suspicion of covering up the alleged destruction of evidence by a subordinate during an investigation into a postal abuse scandal. Otsubo worked at the Kyoto prosecutors office by the time of his arrest.

OSAKA, Japan - Hiromichi Otsubo, former head of the elite investigative team at the Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office, enters the Osaka District Court on March 30, 2012. The court sentenced Otsubo and his former deputy to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, after being found guilty of covering up evidence tampering by one of their subordinates in the course of investigations into a case involving the abuse of a postal discount system.
