TOKYO, Japan - Yokozuna Hakuho performs a ring-entering ceremony in front of the statue of the late grand champion Hitachiyama in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, on Dec. 20, 2014, to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the sumo legend's birth.

The 19th yokozuna (grand champion of sumo wrestling) Hitachiyama (1878-1922) poses with a child. A native of Mito (Ibaragi Prefecture), he joined with 2nd generation Umegatani (1878-1927) in welcoming in the golden years of sumo in the late Meiji and Taisho Periods.
