A water mill in Mishima and Mt. Fuji

A water mill in Mishima and Mt. Fuji

Mt. Fuji viewed from Fuji Yoshida City in Yamanashi Prefecture, facing south (?). The location cannot be Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture as written at the bottom of the photograph because neither Mt. Hoei nor Mt. Ashitaka are visible. The families living here used watermills to harness the plentiful spring water in the area. The handwritten number and location indicate that this is the work of Felix Beato.==Date:unknown, Place:Shizuoka, Photo:R. Mt. Fuji seen from Yoshiwara

Mt. Fuji seen from Yoshiwara

Mt. Fuji viewed from Yoshihara Shinmachi, Fuji City (Yoshihara Post Town on the Tokaido Highway), facing north. The presence of Mt. Hoei to the right of Mt. Fuji indicates that this photograph was taken from Suruga Bay River, but the exact location cannot be determined. Houses with thatched roofs and huge trees are visible in the centre, suggesting proximity to the post town.==Date:unknown, Place:Shizuoka, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number64‐74‐0]

Mt. Fuji seen from Subashiri

Mt. Fuji seen from Subashiri

Distant view of Mt. Fuji from Subashiri in Oyama-machi. The size of Mt. Fuji and the fact that Mt. Hoei is visible on the right makes it possible to determine the place where the photograph was taken. Subashiri lies at the entrance of a mountain-climbing path. This photograph was probably taken somewhere along the path. The inscription indicates that this is the work of Felix Beato.==Date:unknown, Place:Shizuoka, Photo:F. Beato, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number78‐17‐0]

Mt. Fuji seen from Numakawa,Tokaido Road

View of the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji from the mouth of Numa River at Tagonoura, Fuji City. This photograph was probably taken from the Suruga Bay side, because Mt. Mt. Fuji seen from Numakawa,Tagonoura

Northern view of snow-capped Mt. Fuji from the mouth of Numa River, which flows into Tagonoura Harbour in Fuji City. The location of Mt. A retaining wall constructed of wooden posts and pebbles protect the riverbank. Mt. Fuji seen from a mountain village

Mt. Fuji seen from a mountain village

Mt. Fuji viewed from around Murayama, Fujinomiya City (?). When climbing to Mt. Fuji from Fujinomiya, travelers stopped at Murayama Sengen Shrine and Dainichi-do in Murayama Village to worship. Since Mt. Hoei can be seen jutting up on the right, it is likely that this photograph was taken in Murayama, but the lack of an object of reference makes it difficult to determine the exact location.==Date:unknown, Place:Shizuoka, Photo:F.
