Gov't told to pay damages for denying lawyer access to client

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Honen Kubo (L), the state-appointed defense counsel for Peruvian Jose Manuel Torres Yagi, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting and killing a girl in the city of Hiroshima in 2005, speaks to reporters in Hiroshima on March 13 after the Hiroshima District Court ordered the state to pay him 220,000 yen in compensation after he was denied access to his client. Yagi was in the custody of prosecutors at the time.

The Sanmon Gate of Chion-in Temple

Shinbashi dori of the Higashiyama district, Kyoto City. Chionin Temple was founded as Kissui Zenbo, of Honen a hermitage of the priest. It is the head temple of the Jodo Sect. The gate is the largest cherry gate made by Tokugawa Hidetada. The construction was initiated in 1619 and completed 2 years later. The photo looks up at the overall gate.
