Gymnastics gold medalist Oka awarded in Okayama

Japanese gymnast Shinnosuke Oka (R) is given the Okayama prefecture's citizen honor award from Okayama Gov. Ryuta Ibaragi at the prefecture's government office in Okayama on Aug. 26, 2024. The Okayama prefecture native won three gold medals in the men's gymnastics individual all-around, horizontal bar and team events, and a bronze medal in the parallel bars at the Paris Olympics.

Kegon Falls is one of the three major waterfalls of Japan, along with Nachi Falls (Wakayama Prefecture) and Fukuroda Falls (Ibaragi Prefecture). It is roughly 97m high. Local resident Hoshino Gorobei built the road along the basin of the falls in 1900 and opened a teahouse. The elevator currently in service started operation in in 1930.
