U.S. institute presents plaque to Mt. Fuji radar

TOKYO, Japan - The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) of the United States presents a plaque to Japan's Meteorological Agency in Tokyo on March 6 for a radar which went out of service last year after 35 years of helping detect typhoons from Mt. Fuji. The institute described the radar as a ''feat in the field of electrical communication technology.'' Yuzo Takahashi (R), a member of the IEEE History Center, handed the ''IEEE Milestone'' bronze plaque to agency Director General Yuso Takigawa (C) and Ichiro Taniguchi (L), president of Mitsubishi Electric Corp., which developed the radar.
