During its meeting, the CBE's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate and the rate of the main operation at 19.25 percent, 20.25 percent and 19.75 percent, respectively. The discount rate remained at 19.75 percent. According to Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the country's year-on-year headline inflation hit a record high of 39.7 percent in August, compared to 38.2 percent in July and 15.3 percent in August 2022.
