TOKYO, Japan - Japanese swimmer Suzu Chiba meets the press at a Tokyo hotel Aug. 3 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed her claim over the Olympic selection process and shut the door to next month's Sydney Games. TOKYO, Japan - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) opens a hearing in Tokyo on Aug. 3 in which Japanese swimmer Suzu Chiba (2nd from R) claimed the Japan Amateur Swimming Federation (JASF) (L side) unfairly omitted her from the roster for the Sydney Olympics. CAS arbitrators ruled the decision was valid, but ordered the JASF to pay 10,000 Swiss francs (650,000 yen) to her as partial compensation for expenses incurred in connection with the appeal, saying the dispute could have been avoided if the organization had disclosed its selection policy.
