US: Columbia University Marks Hanukkah After Sydney Attack

Thousands of people gathered across New York City, including Columbia University, on Sunday night, December 14, to mark the first night of Hanukkah. Jews from around the city danced, sang, and huddled against the cold at menorah lightings, while mourning those killed in the terror shooting that targeted a Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

Germany: Pro-Israel Community Gathers at Brandenburg Gate on Hanukkah Following Sydney Attack 2

Following a reported terror attack on Sunday, December 14, at a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney's Bondi Beach, security has been heightened for upcoming Hanukkah events in Germany. Despite the heightened alert, a public candle lighting for the first night of Hanukkah was held today at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, an event that was attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Australia: 15 Dead After Mass Shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach

At least 15 people were killed and 40 injured in a mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, December 14. Authorities said the suspects were a father and his son. The 50-year-old father was killed at the scene, while the 24-year-old son is in critical condition. The shooting targeted Jewish Australians gathered to mark the first day of Hanukkah and has been declared a terrorist attack.
