Court rules against residents' privacy versus registry network

KANAZAWA, Japan - Plaintiffs enter the Nagoya High Court's Kanazawa branch in Ishikawa Prefecture on Dec. 11. The court dismissed the residents' demands to protect their privacy from the national ''Juki Net'' electronic residency registry network, launched in August 2002, saying ''The Juki Net does not violate privacy rights and hence is not against the Constitution's Article 13.''

Sewing machine for sewing fasteners without tape jointly developed by JUKI and YKK.

JUKI and YKK have jointly developed the "Airy String" zipper, which has no tape, and a sewing machine for sewing the zipper. JUKI will manufacture the sewing machines, and YKK will buy and rent the machines and sell the fasteners. The developed fastener is expected to improve operability and design by integrating with the fabric. The sewing machine has developed a new mechanism to synchronize the elements that interlock the zipper with the fabric. This eliminates the need for stitching, which is done after the tape and fabric are sewn together to prevent them from shifting, thus reducing the sewing process. VTT, a simulated organ for surgical training by Kotobuki Giken

Kotobuki Giken has launched a new company to develop and sell simulated organs for surgical training using konjac. The company raised about 90 million yen through stock investment-type crowdfunding. The company will sell the products to medical equipment manufacturers as well as universities and hospitals. The company also has its sights set on overseas markets. The new company, KOTOBUKI Medical, was established with experts in venture management and medical equipment sales, and is headed by President Takayama. The company will be based in Kotobuki Giken. The new company will handle everything from the purchase of raw materials to processing and sales. The new company aims to achieve sales of 10 million yen in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019, and to build a plant in 2008.
