Zenko Suzuki Born on Jan. 11, 1911 in Iwate Prefecture. After graduating from the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry's Fisheries Institute (now Tokyo University of Fisheries) in 1935, Suzuki worked for various fisheries organizations. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1947. Suzuki became Japan's 70th prime minister on July 17, 1980 following the sudden death of then Prime Minister Masayoshi Ohira.
