Choi filed a lawsuit seeking nullification of the Nagasaki city government's decision to reject his application for the allowance. In 1980 the Japanese government granted him the right to receive support when he visited Japan, but the permission was invalidated later the same year after he left Japan for South Korea.

After graduating from the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry's Fisheries Institute (now Tokyo University of Fisheries) in 1935, Suzuki worked for various fisheries organizations. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1947. Suzuki became Japan's 70th prime minister on July 17, 1980 following the sudden death of then Prime Minister Masayoshi Ohira. TOKYO, Japan - Centenarian painter Yuki Ogura, in this photo taken in July 1998, died of acute respiratory failure at a hospital in Tokyo's Chuo Ward on July 23, her family said July 24. She was 105. Ogura, from Otsu, western Japan, received the Order of Culture in 1980 for her achievements in Japan's native ''Nihonga'' style of painting. She was the second female painter ever to receive the award.
