Some 1,500 extra troops have been deployed across the country, adding to some 6,800 troops already involved in security operations leading up to the event. Border controls have been temporarily reinforced at all land, air and sea entry points -- including those with countries in the Schengen area. Extra checks will be in place around sensitive targets in the provinces of Bari and Brindisi until 2 p.m. local time (0000 GMT) on June 18. N., S. Korea agree to hold regular ministerial talks

SEOUL, South Korea - South Korea's Unification Minister Park Jae Kyu (R) shakes hands with Jon Kum Jin, a North Korean cabinet counselor, at a first round of ministerial talks at a Seoul hotel July 30. N. Korean delegates pledge to work for unification

SEOUL, South Korea - A five-member North Korean delegation, headed by Jon Kum Jin, a cabinet counselor, arrives at Seoul's Kimpo international airport at 12:35 p.m. on July 29 for three days of ministerial talks with South Korea aimed at implementing the historic accord signed during the June 13-15 inter-Korean summit. In an arrival statement, members of the North Korean delegation said they have come to Seoul 'with an ardent desire' to realize peace and national unification for the whole of Korea.
