STORY: Heatwave sweeps across Netherlands DATELINE: July 20, 2022 LENGTH: 00:00:45 LOCATION: THE HAGUE, Netherlands CATEGORY: ENVIRONMENT/SOCIETY SHOTLIST: 1. various of Netherlands 2. various of people cooling off by a river STORYLINE: A heatwave swept across the Netherlands on Tuesday with temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius all over the country, one of the hottest days since 1901. According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), the highest temperature of the day, 39.5 degrees, was measured in Maastricht, a city in the southern province of Limburg. In the coastal province of Zeeland, temperatures rose to 39.1 degrees. The KNMI said in a press release on Tuesday that "of course, something like this doesn't happen every year, but the chance of record-shattering temperatures increases as the earth warms up faster." The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) activated the national heat plan for Monday and Tuesday, and issued a smog warning. The pla
