Record high temperature of 40.9 C marked in Saitama, Gifu

The temperature in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, and Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, climbed to a record high of 40.9 C on the same day, breaking the previous record of 40.8 C marked in Yamagata Prefecture in 1933.

KOSHIEN, Japan - On April 7, 2010, Yomiuri Giants players offer silent prayers before their practice round at Koshien Stadium in Hyogo Prefecture for the ball club's infield and running coach Takuya Kimura after he died the dame day at a Hiroshima hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The 37-year-old former utility player, who had ended his playing career after the 2009 season, had been in a critical condition at the hospital after collapsing suddenly while hitting balls during pre-game fielding practice on April 2.
