Saruhashi

Saruhashi

Sarubashi (Monkey Bridge) spans Katsura River in Sarubashi-cho, Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This bridge is considered one of the three most unusual bridges in Japan, together with Kiso-no-Kakehashi (Gifu Prefecture) and Kintai-kyo of Suo (Yamaguchi Prefecture). It was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty in 1932. Sarubashi is designed in hijikiketa style, which is characterized by a lack of vertical supports. This is a view of the bridge from upstream. Many people are on the bridge. The date is unknown.==Date:unknown, Place:Yamanashi, Photo:A. The famous scene in the Kakehashi of Kiso, similar to photos numbered 38-11 and 38-12. It could have been taken further back compared to photo numbered 38-12. A house looking building stands in the left corner, and in the center of the river can be seen a small boat with several people on it.==Date:unknown, Place:Nagano, Photo:Kusakabe Kinbei, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number38‐13‐0]
