OSAKA, Japan - A ceremony marking the opening of a common counter for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Air System is held Sept. 20 at Kansai airport in Osaka. Similar counters, opened for passengers using shuttle flights between Tokyo and Osaka, were also set up at Tokyo's Haneda airport for flight reservations, ticket sales and other services. The shuttle flights were launched July 1 in an attempt to draw travelers away from Shinkansen bullet train service.

Aerology Lab (Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture) announced on April 14 that it has developed a prototype of a "purely Japanese" flying robot (drone), "AeroRange Pro" (photo), which consists entirely of parts made in Japan. In general, drones rely on parts made in China for most of their components. The company aims to start mass production in small lots by December. (Minato Ward, Osaka City), which operates an open innovation base, Kobashi Robotics (Minami Ward, Okayama City), which supports mass production, and Liberace (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), which comprehensively supports venture businesses from trial manufacture to mass production. The company is promoting speedy manufacturing in cooperation with town factories in Kansai and other regions. The hybrid drone combines an engine and an electric motor. Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, a subsidiary of J. Front Retailing, will procure 100% of the electricityused in the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Store (Chuo Ward, Osaka City), scheduled to open in late September, from renewable energy sources. The store will also switch to electric vehicles (EVs) for company use. In 2030, J-Front as a whole plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40% from the 2005 level, and by 2050, to zero. The main building in Shinsaibashi will introduce the "Hydro Eco Plan" derived from hydroelectric power generation by Kansai Electric Power Co. Because of the hydroelectric power generation, no CO2 emissions will be generated. 1st batch of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Japan

OSAKA, April 30 Kyodo - The first batch of the coronavirus vaccine developed by U.S. pharmaceutical maker Moderna Inc. arrived in Japan on Friday, with the government planning to use it at mass vaccination centers following expected approval in May.It will become the second type of shot available in the country after the one developed by Pfizer Inc. if a health ministry panel gives it the green light, possibly by May 20. The Moderna vaccine that arrived at Kansai airport in Osaka Prefecture from Belgium is expected to be used at large-scale COVID-19 vaccination centers that the central government plans to open in Tokyo and Osaka, according to the government.
