KASHIHARA, Japan - A "Debo 1 type" wooden train carriage manufactured in 1913 and used on the Kintetsu Nara line is exhibited in Kashiba, Nara Prefecture in western Japan, on Nov. 1, 2014. Its interior, usually kept out of bounds for preservation purposes, was open to a limited number of visitors as part of the line's 100th anniversary commemoration events.

TOKYO, Japan - Leading businesses, universities and designers launched a three-year campaign on Jan. 28 to heighten Japan's brand image based on its traditional culture. Shinji Fukukawa, who serves as advisor to a council to promote the ''Japanesque modern''campaign, Kunio Nakamura, president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. who heads the council, and Hirotsugu Kashiba, who serves as secretary general of the council, pose for photos in Tokyo after inauguration of the council.
