Researchers decode plant genome for 1st time

TOKYO, Japan - Michio Oishi (R) and Satoshi Tabata (C), of the Kazusa DNA Research Institute in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture, speak at a news conference in Tokyo on Dec. 13. They and researchers in the United States, Britain, France and Germany have succeeded in decoding the genome of a plant for the first time.

Fallen metrological observation instrument

Photo taken Aug. 31, 2020, shows a radiosonde, an instrument used for meteorological observation, stuck in a tree on the premises of the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo. It is apparently one of several instruments sent into the air by the Kazusa Environmental Research Center from Tokyo's Shibuya Ward using a balloon.
