Nearly 30 photos of Okinawa in the late 1800s discovered

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken May 2, 2014 shows Keisho Ishiguro, a collector of old photos, examining old pictures of Okinawa in his possession at the Camera Museum of the Japan Camera Industry Institute in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, which has taken custody of them on his behalf.

Photos taken after 1896 earthquake found by collector

TOKYO, Japan - Photo collector Keisho Ishiguro shows an album left by photographer Matsuchi Nakajima (1850-1938) in Tokyo on April 25, 2012. Ishiguro found photos in the album showing the coastal area of Iwate Prefecture after it was hit by a tsunami of up to more than 30 meters following an earthquake in 1896. (Kyodo)
