Former badminton champion Niinuma dies

TOKYO, Japan - Hiroe Niinuma (L) holds in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward in November 2002, with her husband, the singer Kenji Niinuma, a certificate of induction into the Badminton World Federation's Hall of Fame. Niinuma, whose maiden name was Yuki and who won the women's singles title at the All England Open Badminton Championships in 1969, 1974, 1975 and 1977, died of cancer on Sept. 7, 2011 at 62.
