Seiyu resumes sales of U.S. beef before other major retailers

TOKYO, Japan - U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer checks out U.S. beef at the Seiyu supermarket in Kinshicho, Tokyo on March 29 as part of a U.S. campaign to promote the sales of American beef. Seiyu, which is under the control of U.S. WalMart Stores Inc., resumed selling U.S. beef on March 29, the first major retailer in Japan to do so since the import ban was lifted last July.

Tokyo subway holds disaster drill

TOKYO, Japan - Employees at the Teito Rapid Transit Authority hold an earthquake-fire drill with the Tokyo Fire Department on Feb. 26 on an underground track between Kinshicho and Oshiage stations on the Hanzomon Line. The drill scenario was changed to include a fire following the Feb. 18 subway disaster in South Korea.

Labor Ministry opens PC-based job info center

Job seekers use personal computers to look for jobs at a placement office the Labor Ministry opened in front of JR Kinshicho Station in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, on April 26. The office, called Hello Work Information Plaza, has 50 PCs linked to a database with over 12,000 pieces of job information.
