Cherry trees along the Koganei embankment

Although there were many places to view cherry blossoms in Edo, Koganei was popular even in the Meiji Period because Emperor Meiji visited the site in 1883. Another reason was that Sakai Station (present-day Musashi Sakai) and Kokubunji Station opened on the Shinjuku-Tachikawa Line of Kobu Railways, making it a convenient destination for many people. It could also be that because of the lower average temperature, the wild cherry trees bloom later here than other kinds of cherry trees.
