Station-side robot demonstration experiment started by Connected Robotics and others

On the 16th, Connected Robotics (Koganei City, Tokyo), in collaboration with JR East Startup (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) and Nippon Restaurant Enterprise (Taito Ward, Tokyo), began a demonstration experiment of an "ekisoba (buckwheat noodle) robot" at a soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant in JR Higashi Koganei Station. The aim of the experiment is to verify the practicality of the robot in actual shops, and to introduce it to other shops in the future and automate the entire operation. The boiling machine and sink were also custom-made to fit the robot. In the future, the company hopes to increase the processing capacity of the robot and introduce it at stores with a large number of customers, such as Shinjuku and Kanda in Tokyo. Takoyaki Robot Octo Chef

Takoyaki Robot Octo Chef

Connected Robotics (Koganei City, Tokyo) will launch a new service plan for its octopus dumpling robot "Octo Chef" in August for a monthly fee. The plan includes all the costs for upgrading and adding functions to the robot, so that users can always use the latest version, and also aims to make it easier for small businesses to introduce the robot by reducing the initial cost. Takoyaki robots and other cooking robots may be used in small and medium-sized restaurants, but the price is a hurdle to their widespread use. In addition to the competition with the labor cost of part-time workers, the cost of adding new functions or changing to a new image processing unit during the process is also a reason for hesitation. The new plan solves these user concerns. The monthly fee and the length of the cancellation penalty period will be worked out in the future. Cherry trees by the Edo River

Cherry trees by the Edo River

The Kanda Josui (waterway) stretching from around Sekiguchidai in Koishikawa and Iida Bridge was called Edo River (different from the tributary of Tonegawa). It is said that cherry trees were planted here in 1884, but despite its shallow history, the area became a famous cherry blossom viewing site called the new Koganei by the end of Meiji Period. Several boat houses provided lodgings and rented out small boats of this kind. It was a refined pleasure to view the cherry blossoms from the boat. This is a magic lantern slide made around 1897.==Date:unknown, Place:Tokyo, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number98‐35‐0]

People are enjoying the cherry blossoms from Koganei Bridge. The most beautiful scenery stretched for two kilometers upstream and two kilometers downstream from the bridge. It is not clear when the cherry trees were planted at Tamagawa Waterway because different documents give different dates. However, the Koganei Cherry Tree Monument (still existing near Koganei Bridge) puts it at 1737. Records show that Kawasaki Heiemon Sadataka, the caretaker of Musashino Shinden, and others planted cherry trees on both sides of the waterway near Koganei Bridge. Until the Murayama and Yamaguchi reservoirs were built in 1927 and 1934, respectively, the Tamagawa Waterway seen in this photograph was the main source of water for Edo and later Tokyo. Huge cherry trees stand along the banks. Only a few old cherry trees remain at present because most of them were cut down in 1954 to allow for the expansion of the Itsukaichi Highway north of the waterway. The spaces where people could put out blankets to sit and enjoy the cherry blossoms also disappeared, and people began to go to Koganei Park for cherry blossom viewing. Cherry trees along the Koganei embankment

Cherry trees along the Koganei embankment

Although there were many places to view cherry blossoms in Edo, Koganei was popular even in the Meiji Period because Emperor Meiji visited the site in 1883. Another reason was that Sakai Station (present-day Musashi Sakai) and Kokubunji Station opened on the Shinjuku-Tachikawa Line of Kobu Railways, making it a convenient destination for many people. It could also be that because of the lower average temperature, the wild cherry trees bloom later here than other kinds of cherry trees.
