Kokuro approves compromise package to settle long dispute

TOKYO, Japan - The National Railway Workers Union, known as Kokuro, holds an extraordinary meeting in Tokyo on April 26, 2010, to discuss a compromise package to settle a 23-year-long dispute over the dismissal of labor union members during the privatization of Japan National Railways. The meeting approved the package under which the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency, which eventually inherited JNR's debts and claims, would pay settlement money to 910 households involved in court battles.
