Serbia: Clashes Erupt Across Country as Pro- and Anti-Government Protests Escalate

Clashes continued in Serbia for a second day as supporters and opponents of President Aleksandar Vucic staged competing demonstrations across multiple cities, including Novi Sad, Belgrade, Kraljevo, Nis, Cacak, and Kragujevac. Riot police intervened with tear gas and separation tactics as both sides threw flares, rocks, and bottles. The protests, student-led since November, began after a train station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad, killing 16 and sparking outrage over corruption. Demonstrators demand early parliamentary elections, which Vucic has refused. Government supporters have recently organized counter-protests, escalating tensions.
