"The ash emission reached approximately 3,000 meters above sea level," said the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the federal research center Unified Geological Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The 1,156-meter-high Ebeko volcano is located on Russia's Kuril Island of Paramushir. Regular emissions, ranging from weak to moderate, have been ongoing since Oct. 20, 2016, which are considered normal for the volcano. The record emission occurred on Aug. 31, 2018, when a smoke column surged to a height of 6,000 meters from
