Canada Faces Worst Wildfire Season On Record

Canada Faces Worst Wildfire Season On Record

Handout - The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8 captured an image of a fire burning several hundred kilometers southwest of Yellowknife on August 16, 2023. This fire recently overran Enterprise, a small community of about 150 people on the south shore of Great Slave Lake. According to news reports, between 85 and 95 percent of the structures in the community were destroyed. Canada is facing one of the worst fire years it has seen in decades, according to data published by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. More than 13.7 million hectares (33.9 million acres) had burned as of August 17, seven times the 25-year average. Photo by NASA Earth Observatory images by Lauren Dauphin via ABACAPRESS.COM

HANDOUT - September 22, 2021 - The Cumbre Vieja volcano, located in the Canary Islands, erupted on the last day 19 of September. Despite the damage on the island of La Palma, including more than 133 destroyed houses and tens of kilometers covered in lava, volcanic activity has not caused any deaths and remains under constant monitoring. In a new image taken by NASAs LandSat 8 satellite, it is possible to observe in detail the lava flows flowing down the east coast towards the Atlantic Ocean. Photo by NASA via ABACAPRESS.COM
