Syria's new authorities face explosive situation after bloody clashes - Latakia

Armed forces of the new Syrian government are being deployed to the coastal city of Latakia where positions are held by the fighters loyalists and other Muslim jihadist groups. More than 1,000 people, mostly Alawite civilians, have been killed by security forces in just a few days, throwing into question the ability of Syria's new government to maintain peace in a country still suffering the effects of more than a decade of civil unrest.
