Lavandin Harvest - Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

Lavandin Harvest - Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

Vachere, August 2024 Near the village of Vachere located in the Alpes de Haute Provence, the Lavandin harvest takes place. This village rises to almost 900 m above sea level and offers a superb view of the region. The harvest takes place in August. The cut flowers are transferred to a special trailer on which, once returned to the distillery, a large lid will be placed. It is in this trailer on which this lid is placed that the distillation begins. This sort of large pressure cooker injects the liquid which will be distilled into this industrial still which is open to the air, from which the precious oil which will remain on the surface will come out. This year thanks to the rains in May, the harvest is quite good The oil is stored in large blue cans before being sold. Photo by Olivier Polet/ABACAPRESS.COM
