New High-Speed Railway Opens In Hubei - China

A bullet train leaves the Yichang North Railway Station in Yichang, central China's Hubei Province, Dec. 26, 2025. The Wuhan-Yichang section of a high-speed railway linking east China's Shanghai, southwest China's Chongqing and Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province was officially put into operation on Friday. With a total length of 314 kilometers and a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the Wuhan-Yichang section of the railway is a part of China's high-speed rail network along the Yangtze River. China: Trees Seem Lush in Winter, Revealed to Be Covered in Birds

On December 15, 2025, in Xuzhou, eastern China’s Jiangsu province, a video showed several trees that looked unusually lush for winter. From a distance, their branches appeared thick with leaves, even though most nearby trees were bare. As the camera moved closer, the “leaves” were revealed to be small, round birds packed tightly along the branches. They filled almost every twig, giving the trees a dense, full appearance. Occasionally, a few birds shifted or fluttered, but the overall outline remained like a giant canopy. Chinese netizens admired the scene, saying the living “bird trees” reflected the area’s improving environment.

US: Major Power Outage Leaves Thousands in Dark in San Francisco 5

A major power outage hit San Francisco on Saturday evening, December 20, at its peak affecting about 124,000 customers. Power was gradually restored, reducing the number of affected customers to around 24,000 by early Sunday morning. Large parts of the northern and western areas of the city were left in darkness, forcing store and transit closures and suspending Waymo’s driverless taxi service. The cause remains unclear, though a fire at a PG&E substation may have contributed, and the outage also disrupted public transportation and communications.

RECAP: Knife Attack With Smoke Grenades Leaves Three Dead in Central Taipei

Three people were killed after a man carried out a knife attack using smoke grenades in central Taipei on Friday, December 19. The suspect reportedly threw smoke grenades inside Taipei Main Station and stabbed passersby. He then fled the scene, traveled to nearby Zhongshan Station, and attacked pedestrians again before entering a department store. The 27-year-old suspect later died after jumping from the department store.
